1. West Arms Hotel Llanarmon

Address: Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, United Kingdom

This charming traditional hotel stands at the cross roads in Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, a tranquil village in the Berwyn Mountains. The original building is over 400 years old, its downstairs rooms with their low ceilings, cosy little corners, fireplaces and flagstone floors retain the old world charm of this country inn. The Bedrooms have been tastefully furnished to provide modern comforts, though in a style which is in keeping with the character of this warm friendly old hostelry. Wooden beams prop up the walls and support the ceilings, while brass bedsteads add the the historic atmosphere. The cooking is excellent, with an eclectic range of ideas and influences, making for an interesting, tasty range of dishes with presentation to match in our two rosette restaurant, or lounge bar. Our restaurant is steeped in history with an inglenook fireplace, low ceiling and original oak beams and is famed for it's high quality local produce, presentation, service and it's two rosettes. We have entries in the Good Food Guide as well as a recommendation by the prestigious Michelin Guide, Andrew Castle of GMTV and also Radio Cymru. Welsh Chef Grant Williams has cooked his way around the world and not only appeared on TV cookery programmes but has also had the pleasure of cooking for His Royal Highness Prince Charles. The location is a major asset, the surrounding countryside is one of Wales' best kept secrets. Peaceful country lanes lead to hidden valleys and remote mountain heights with Wales's highest waterfall being nearby. There are Exhilarating walks and good pony trekking close by, together with private fishing on a two mile stretch of the Ceiriog River. The hotel is also well located for trips to Llangollen, the Dee Valley and the National trust's Chirk Castle

2. The Hand at Llanarmon Hotel Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog

Address: The Hand at Llanarmon Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, United Kingdom

The whole of North Wales is beautiful, but few areas compare to the Ceiriog Valley in the Borderlands. It’s a hidden jewel which changes in character at every turn of its winding path. If you come to the Ceiriog, you have to come to Llanarmon D.C., an unspoilt village at the heart of the Upper Ceiriog: the most remote, and arguably the most beautiful part of the valley, set against the backdrop of the moody and undiscovered Berwyn Mountains. The Hand at Llanarmon is very much a centre of village life; a centuries old inn which embraces travellers and regulars alike, with roaring log fires in winter, and outside eating areas for the warmer days. In recent years, we’ve built a strong reputation, and been awarded an AA rosette, for superb food, freshly prepared with informal flair and generosity by our three wonderful chefs. We can arrange almost any country pursuit nearby, and most of the major attractions of North Wales and the Borderlands are easy to reach by car. Or you can just soak up the atmosphere in the bar, warmed by the fire, and maybe a malt whisky or two. Hotel Rating: Self Assessed 4 star
