1. Woodside Hotel Aberdour

Address: High Street, Aberdour, United Kingdom

Modern comforts, traditional values, good food and the warmest of welcomes await guests in this historic Fife mansion. The hotel has undergone a series of thorough and sympathetic refurbishments, the latest being a complete refurbishment in 1995. The work done then, costing almost one million pounds, makes The Woodside one of the most comfortable hotels in the area - and only 30 minutes away from heart of historic Edinburgh. This great hotel sits proudly in the centre of the charming and perennially popular little town of Aberdour. Sometimes known as the 'Jewel of Fife', for such a small village Aberdour has much to offer, there are the two superb beaches ( one a European Union "Blue Flag Award" winner), Aberdour castle, built in the 13th Century, the 12th century village church and much more. Its position presents a quite spectacular array of sightseeing and touring opportunities all only a short drive away. Each of the hotel's bedrooms is decorated and furnished in a very individual style and is named after a Scottish clan. The Rennie Room, for example, is an apartment with four-poster bed and private sitting room, while the Thomson Room is a luxury family room with views across the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh. The Clipper bar is one of the most unusual in Scotland, featuring antique stained glass and panelling from the famous Orient line vessel 'Orontes'. Relax and unwind in this unique atmosphere whilst choosing from the renowned selection of fine wines, whiskies, spirits and beers. Dining at The Woodside offers the guest a wealth of choice and variety to suit both formal and informal occasions. The hotel's consistently good food and imaginative menus have earned the owner, Martin McIlrath, a deserved reputation and most recently an AA rosette for excellence.
