The Gabbiano Hotel takes its name from the area frequentation, until 15 years ago, of various species of water birds, in particular sea gulls. In fact it seems that the owner of a store which was already located in the area, before that the present complex was made, had chosen its name because he had been inspired by a sea gulls' flight. The complex is located in a coast line among the most beautiful beaches of Salento coast (Marina of Pulsano), situated as a guard of a wide bay repaired from winds'attack even if it directly faces Jonio sea. The place where it rises is called La Fontana. This name is referred to the underground source, regularly flowing on the surface, trowing the waters toward the lower channel, which, on its way, threw them toward sea. Documents of the second part of the 18th century, show the presence of the Canale della Fontana, where until not much time ago, water was directed and to the same place, cows belonging to Monica race were taken to drink, from the near pastures. A kind of breeding which particularly required good waters and healthy air; just as the air you still today can breath, in the hot August nights, in the area kissed by the fresh sea breezes.
