L'Abbaye, The abbey at La Colle sur Loup is situated on the very prestigious, famous site of Saint Paul de Vence, to the south of the borough, on the estate of Canadel. Originally, in the 10 th century, a monastery existed on this site which was left to the monks of Lerins in 1055. The monks immediately started to build the chapel of Canadel, which was dedicated to Saint Elisabeth. The apse and the nave with its three small arches are pure Roman style and are dating of that era. At the priory of Canadel also remains the cloister of the 10 th century. The other buildings date from the 12 th century. The monks left during the French revolution and the estate was bought by an Italian family. Mr. Joseph transformed the Abbey into a hotel restaurant back in 1938 and became L'Abbaye chez Joseph. Famous artists, writers and actors became attracted to the hotel. Numerous painters resided here. The Abbey became a meeting point to many famous singers and movie stars: Henri Georges Clouzot celebrated his wedding in our chapel, and so did Dany Robin and Georges Marshall. Brigitte Bardot resided here regularly. The hotel stayed closed for many years, until it was bought and renovated by Sylviane Hugues and her son Stephane in 1997.The Abbey offers today, adding to an exceptional and mystical layout, the comfort and enchantment of a very privileged holiday resort. The charm of 15 personalised rooms, containing a minibar and satellite tv (some of the rooms fitted with air-conditioning). The pleasure of a large pool at your disposal for relaxation. A shaded patio surrounded by century old walls where you can enjoy the very refined cuisine of our chef Arnault Baldereschi During the winter month : two beautiful dining rooms : One of them equipped with a monumental stone fireplace and its harmonious arches; one in a more charming, colourful, provincial style. The advantages of the abbey : Its chapel from the 10th century where weddings can be celebrated. Privat parking . Beaches and Nice airport in less than 10 minutes driving distance.
