This protected area around the mountain called Szczeliniec Wielki (Great Szczeliniec) is known for its interesting rock formations, which have been named for their resemblance to people and animals: Wielbład (Camel), Mamut (Mammoth), Małpa (Monkey), and so forth. Trails lead to these Mad Rocks (Błedne Skały) as well as to deep gorges and rock corridors. Karłow is on the Walls International Bike Route (Miedzynarodowa Trasa Rowerowa Sciany) and the Gory Stołowe International Bike Route (Miedzynarodowa Trasa Rowerowa Gory Stołowe). Some 50 km/31 miles of cross-country ski trails are kept groomed in the winter. The Hotel Karłow is approx. 11 km/6.8 miles from the spa town of Kudowa-Zdroj.
