The Waggon Horses is a family owned country pub hotel restaurant in North Essex close to the Suffolk county border half way between Colchester and Cambridge near to Halstead, Braintree, Sudbury and Haverhill. A good stopping off place for Stansted Airport, Constable Country and Hedingham Castle. Colchester, Britain's oldest recorded town, is only 20 miles away and the University City of Cambridge only 30 miles. The Norman Keep built in 1140 at Castle Hedingham is only 2 miles away. The Waggon Horses is a handsome XVIth century inn standing on the main road at Great Yeldham close to the Essex/Suffolk border. We are a freehouse featured in the CAMRA Best Beer Guide. The restaurant is open every day from 12-2 pm and 7-9pm; all day on Sundays. Prices are very reasonable and there are a variety of bar snacks available. Situated in 4.5 acres of the landscape gardens on the Essex and Suffolk Border, this beautiful 15th Century inn offers charming and well -appointed accommodation, award winning restaurant, and Essex Barn wedding venue. With open fireplaces and traditional charm and modern comforts and facilities. The rooms are located in a seperate block, away from the main building, offering a quiet and secluded area in which to enjoy your stay. The decor is soft and inviting and each room has a flat screen TV and teacoffee making facilities. Free wired internet access is available in every room. The White Hart now offers a newly refurbished executive lounge for guests to relax in. The restaurant has held a AA Rosette award for the last 6 years and 2 AA Rosette for the last 3 years for the outstanding preparation of its food, good quality , ingredients it uses. All of the food is made using the best seasonal ingredients avaiable locally, including meat, game and vegetables sourced from local suppliers. The accommodation is highly commended by the AA guide which awarded the hotel four GOLD stars which is awarded to the top ten percent within there rating in Great Britain. The accommodation has also been awarded four GOLD stars by the British Tourisim 'Visit Britain'. Recent awards won ' the exciting wine award', Essex Food and Drink Awards 09. Runner up 'Best Hotel Restaurant' awarded by Food and Drink awards 09.Also came second place again in the essex Food and Drink Awards 2010 for best hotel restuarant , and won best hotel resuarant in 2011
