1. Bear Hotel Crickhowell

Address: High Street, Crickhowell, United Kingdom

The Bear is famous far and wide for its welcoming atmosphere, historic character and good food. With old world charm and modern amenities, The Bear is an ideal retreat for a country break. Although a building of great antiquity - it dates back to 1432 - the Bear tastefully incorporates all modern comforts into its historic surroundings. A cobbled forecourt, archway into the inner courtyard and 19th-century stagecoach timetable in the bar are all reminders of the Bear's former role. Popular with locals and visitors alike, the Bear is the social hub of the pretty little town of Crickhowell. The Bear's low-beamed bar, filled with antiques and toasted by a roaring log fire in winter, has twice won the 'Best Pub in Britain' award. The warm and characterful style befits the hotel's manner, setting the tone for the unique and whimsical atmosphere only found in such historic establishments. As would befit a bar that is recommended by CAMRA - the campaign for real ale, there is a good variety of well kept handpulled beers. The bar sells a large number of different vintages by the glass allowing the discerning drinker to sample a variety of wines.
