1. Fox and Hounds Country Hotel Chulmleigh

Address: Eggesford, Chulmleigh, United Kingdom

Fox and Hounds Country Hotel is located in the glorious North Devon Countryside, perched on the River Taw amongst the scenic landscape of the Tarka Trail. The hotel offers a comfortable retreat to nature where you can enjoy the outdoor life amongst the surrounding natural beauty. Fox and Hounds boasts access to some of the best sports in the country and boasts rolling gardens that meet the riverbank, where on a lucky day you can find salmon leaping and otters frolicking. Food is a passion at the Fox and Hounds and under the guidance of the Head Chef, the hotel has been granted a high commendation at the prestigious Publican Food & Drink Awards. From traditional home made classics, such as 'Proper' Steak & Kidney Pudding with hand cut chips, to the most beautifully presented a la carte dish, your meal will be freshly prepared to order. The bar has a choice of local ciders and fine real ale, drawn from original beer engines with Royal Doulton handles depicting hand painted hunting scenes. Warm your back by the log fire and take a glance at the art on the walls - all commissioned by local Devonian artists. The hotel is one of the very few in the country that offers their own in-house Fly Fishing school, with full time AAPGAI instructors on hand for experienced fly fishing tutorials. For the more advanced angler, the lake is the perfect spot to perfect your casting and perhaps add a few more techniques.

2. The Globe Inn

Address: Church Street, Chulmleigh, United Kingdom

The Globe Inn is an old village pub with lots of character. It overlooks a quaint cobbled church square where you can sit and enjoy the tranquility of the area. The pub boasts roaring log fires, a cosy bar, wood panelled restaurant, an afternoon tea lounge and serves a variety of West Country Ales. This cosy bar features local ales and West Country cider, as well as spirits and soft drinks. The highlight is the exciting new wine list provided by our friends at Oliver and Bird: unusual and small artisan wines from all over the world that reflect our ethos at the Globe. Fairtrade coffee and wide selection of Tea Pigs tea is also available. The owners have brought an artistic vision to the bar, by infusing together textiles, fabrics and colours with a bohemian-style cafe culture, where both in-house guests and local residents can relax. This is the perfect place to curl up in an armchair, out of the cold, infront of the woodburning fire. Snacks and light lunches are available. David Jenkins from Dave's Kitchen is proud to be heading up the kitchen at the Globe introducing some vibrant, fresh flavours and exciting new dishes. The food is a mixture of traditional and eclectic, served in these romantic surroundings. A Chef's special weekly choice wets the appetite and the bar menu and the a la carte menu changes constantly. The Globe features a lovely old oak panelled room, originally a public reading room, which is the setting for the restaurant. The candle light glow creates a warm and intimate atmosphere.
