2. Rutland Arms Hotel Bakewell

Address: The Square, Bakewell, United Kingdom

Set in the magnificent town of Bakewell in the heart of The Peak District National Park, the Rutland Arms Hotel offers a hint of Georgian elegance in unrivalled surroundings. Built for the Duke of Rutland in 1804, today the building exudes a unique character with a warm, friendly atmosphere and the traditional charm reminiscent of that era. The hotel is graced by a fine collection of 54 antique English clocks dating from 1670 to circa 1860, lending to the air of history. Lying equidistant from Matlock and Buxton and on the edge of the Chatsworth Estate, Bakewell is surrounded by spectacular countryside yet is easily accessible by road, rail and car. Ironically, with a past firmly intertwined with that of both Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, this thriving market town is now most famous for the Bakewell Pudding which originated here in the kitchens of the Rutland Arms. Sheffield is only 17miles away and Manchester is only 38 miles away. Most important to guests is the quality of the food. The menu at The Square Restaurant here at the Rutland Arms is impressive in quality, style and presentation. The bar and lounge also has a comprehensive menu that is served from 9.30am - 9.30pm every day Of the 35 individually styled bedrooms, it is believed that Jane Austen stayed in room number two whilst visiting Chatsworth and revising the final chapters of her novel Pride and Prejudice. If you enjoy fishing, walking or simply sightseeing, we look forward to welcoming you to the Rutland Arms Hotel.
