1. Airth Castle Hotel & Spa Resort

Address: Near Stirling, Airth, United Kingdom

This hotel is situated in Airth 38 miles from Edinburgh city centre, close to the M9 motorway, and also within easy reach of the historic city of Stirling. Surrounded in beautiful countryside and isolated enough to enjoy the Scottish Lowlands. The hotel has a fully equipped health centre, which includes a gymnasium, sauna, steam room, solarium and indoor swimming pool. Aromatherapy is available on request. In essence a beautiful property which has been refurbished to a modern high standard. The building dates from the 14th century. From the outside it has weathered stone walls surrounded by 12 acres of mature woodland. The earliest part of the castle - the west wing, was a simple stone tower or keep. It was later built on the z-plan characteristic of Scottish fortified houses in the 16th and 17th centuries. There is a new annex which was originally the stable block and is now where the majority of the bedrooms and conference rooms are. The hotel's 123 rooms include 6 junior suites. All are equipped with direct-dial telephones, satellite tv, private bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities and trouser press. There is 24-hour room service. 23 of the rooms are located in the castle itself and feature traditional Scottish tartans and heraldic shields. Many have four poster beds. The hotel houses the majority of the rooms and these are modern and spacious in design and ideal for family occupation. The lobby is based in the newer part of the hotel, and although is small in size, it boasts a comfortable secluded lounge area and also a brighter bar area underneath a glass conservatory. This hotel boasts one of the finest restaurants in Scotland, a dining room overlooking the Ochil Hills. Another restaurant lies beneath an impressive glass pyramid, offers less formal dining, but to the same remarkably high standard. 32 kms to the airport (edinburgh), 5 minute walk to the nearest bus stop, 51 km to the nearest fair site (edinburgh int'l conf centre), 56 kms to the airport (glasgow), 8 km to the nearest station (falkirk grahamston), 8 kms to city centre.
